ComEd closer to full power restoration

July 15, 2011 (CHICAGO)

As of 6 a.m., about 36,000 customers remain without electricity. At the height of the storm, more than 800,000 homes and businesses went dark.

ComEd says over 850 crews have been working around the clock to restore the power. The utility company says its replaced miles of wires and hundreds of utility poles.

With hot weather set to hit the area, Chicago leaders will gather Friday afternoon at the city's Office of Emergency Management and Communications to encourage people to take precautions to avoid heat-related emergencies and illness.
