The baby was not hurt and was reunited with its mother.
Police said the two police officers spotted the man carrying the baby just after they had been alerted to a possible kidnapping in the 1500 block of South Pulaski. When police approached the man, who is in his 20s, he threw the child at a police officer.
Officials say the man was involved in a domestic disturbance before the alleged kidnapping and he and the police officers got into fight. All three were taken to the hospital for treatment.
No charges have been filed.
