Water taxi crew lauded for river rescues

July 28, 2011 (CHICAGO)

The president of Wendella Boats thanked his crew members during a short ceremony Thursday morning.

Back on July 18, a woman taking a smoke break fell into the river near the Roosevelt Road Bridge.

Captain Ragna Russo and her mate David Blackford were honored for pulling the woman from the water and saving her life.

The second incident happened July 2 when a charter vessel caught fire near Michigan Avenue. The crew of the Sunliner Water Taxi, including Captain Cory Brooks, responded and transferred all 11 passengers off the crippled boat.
