Illinois agency considers doubling tolls

July 28, 2011 (CHICAGO)

The Illinois State Toll Highway Authority wants across the board toll increases to pay for $12 billion in new projects.

The hikes would range from 35 to 90 cents for i-pass users. Those paying cash would continue to pay double the I-Pass rate.

The Tollway projects include construction of the O'Hare West Bypass and more work on the Jane Adams Tollway, I-90.

The agency plans to hold public hearings on the proposed toll increase.
