Man dies after being shot by police on West Side

The man later died at Mount Sinai Hospital.

At least one injured officer was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital. That officer was not shot and is listed in good condition.

The Independent Police Review Authority is investigating.

Preliminary Statement on Police Involved Shooting

At approximately 1:40 p.m. on August 3rd, Austin (15th) District officers responded to a call of a domestic disturbance involving a knife on the 300 block of N. Latrobe. Upon arrival, witnesses identified the offender to officers. The officers attempted to conduct an interview with the offender, at which time he became combative, repeatedly striking an officer in the face. A struggle ensued, during the course of which the officer discharged his firearm, striking the offender. The offender was taken into custody and to an area hospital where he was pronounced. Two officers were transported to hospitals with non-life threatening injuries, one with injuries to the head. The matter remains under investigation and all inquiries can be directed to the Independent Police Review Authority at 312-446- 3298.
