The City of Chicago is installing new energy-efficient lighting. The new light bulbs will burn brighter, offer truer color and last longer than the old ones.
"We're gonna see significant cost savings from this program -- $1.8 million -- but also increased life for the lights from 5-6 years to 7-8 years. Also, you're gonna see better color rendition, better quality light on the streets. And the most important aspect of this is better public safety," said Commissioner Gabe Klein, Chicago Department of Transportation.
The city received a grant from the Department of Energy, and matching state funds were also used.
