Back-to-school rallies benefit CPS students

August 6, 2011 (CHICAGO)

Rev. Jesse Jackson attended the event, which featured music, games and free health screenings. Organizers say the goal was to motivate students and parents to pursue academic excellence all year long.

Jackson's RainbowPUSH Coalition hosted its annual back-to-school rally Saturday, as well. Students who attended that rally went home with free book bags filled with school supplies.

While classes start Monday at year-round schools, other Chicago Public schools reopen September 6.
