CHA teens prepare to head to college

August 10, 2011 (CHICAGO)

The Chicago Housing Authority helped send off 90 CHA teenagers who will attend various colleges outside of Chicago.

Students had a chance Wednesday to network, get advice, and receive some gifts.

One of the students, Julius Claybron, is headed for Cornell.

Claybron says his grandmother has been his biggest inspiration. She passed away a week before his high school graduation.

"It's been tough dealing with that," said Claybron. "She continues to motivate me posthumously, we reveled in the acceptance together, we cried together, we laughed together. She's been with me from day one. She is the reason I do what I do."

Claybron plans to double-major in psychology and English and eventually go to law school.
