Governor Pat Quinn cut the ribbon. Lieutenant Governor Sheila Simon plans to make history at this year's state fair when she performs next week with her band Loose Gravel. Simon is the first constitutional officer to perform with her own band at the fair.
The annual celebration features agriculture, food and carnival rides. It continues through August 21.
