French designer loses suit over red-soled shoes

August 12, 2011

A judge ruled that designer Chrisian Louboutin cannot block other shoe designers from making shoes with red-colored soles.

Louboutin red-soled shoes are a big hit internationally and with many celebrities.

He sued to stop designers, including Yves Saint Laurent, from selling shoes with red-lacquered soles saying they violated his trademark.

The judge said his claim to the color red is too broad.
