The Illinois Department of Transportation has launched the fifth year of its "Operation Teen Safe Driving Program."

The program is credited with reducing the number of teen fatalities by 45 percent over the last four years.

Selected schools will be awarded $2,000 to put toward creating their own safe driving programs that highlight the dangers of distracted and drunk driving.

One-hundred-five schools participated in the program last year.
