Shirts for Bloomington firefighters to honor 9/11

August 16, 2011 (BLOOMINGTON, Ill.)

The Pantagraph reports about 100 firefighters in central Illinois will wear the shirts from Sept. 1 to 15. That's about 343 hours, one hour for each of the 343 first responders who died at the site of the World Trade Center in New York.

The shirts will have a logo of the World Trade Center and say "Never Forget."

Fire Chief Mike Kimmerling approved the temporary change of uniform. Kimmerling says it is "an appropriate way for us to remember the ultimate sacrifice that the New York firefighters gave on that day."

Members of the fire department came up with the idea as next month's 10th anniversary of the attacks nears.
