Fire injures 2 at Humboldt Park apartments

August 17, 2011 (CHICAGO)

Flames shot out of a top-floor apartment of a four-story building in the 1100-block of North Christiana. Firefighters quickly rescued two men from a fourth-floor window.

The building had to be evacuated.

"The structure is alarmed. It's approximately 75 units. The thing with this structure is it houses predominantly handicapped and elderly people," said District Chief Thomas Kennedy.

The two victims who were rescued suffered smoke inhalation and were taken to an area hospital. They are expected to be okay.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
