Report: Oldest Ill. resident dies at 111 in Hyde Park

The oldest resident in Illinois has died at age 111.

The Chicago Sun-Times reports that Ethel Darden died peacefully at her Hyde Park home July 17. She was a teacher for more than six decades and assistant principal at Howalton Day School.

In 1946, Darden helped establish Chicago's first private school for African American children.

Darden was the 15th oldest person in the nation.
