Cubs help Cardinals fan meet his favorite team

August 21, 2011 (CHICAGO)

Andy Schroeder of Palatine got to watch his favorite team, the St. Louis Cardinals, take batting practice before Sunday night's game against the Cubs at Wrigley. He suffers from ALS, or Lou Gehrig's Disease.

Friends say that after learning of his life-long love of the Cardinals, the Cubs decided to put any grudges aside and set up a meet-and-greet. Before the game, Schroeder also got a souvenir baseball signed by players from both teams.

"To allow a Cardinal fan on the field in the first place is just incredible," Shroeder said. "I don't have the words to thank 'em. They've been very, very nice and very, very generous."

Schroeder was grateful to the Cubs but happy the Cardinals won the game.
