The accident happened late Sunday near East 85th Street and South Green Bay Ave.
Eight people aboard were taken to area hospitals with injuries that were not life-threatening. Three people refused treatment.
According to a Coast Guard official, lack of experience by the boat operator and night conditions might have played a role in the accident.
