Indiana Governor Mitch Daniels says the state is considering allowing a private company to charge tolls if it rebuilds a northwestern Indiana highway bridge.

The Cline Avenue Bridge in East Chicago has been closed for safety reasons since 2009.

Daniels says state officials have told the company they need to know whether it is serious about rebuilding the 1 1/4 mile bridge.

Highway officials have said it would cost $150 million.
