Hand washing could improve school attendance

August 26, 2011

Keeping a child's hands clean may help keep that child in school.

Danish researchers recently looked at two groups of students aged 5 to 15. One group disinfected their hands three times a day, while the other was not asked to change their behavior.

Researchers found that those who regularly cleaned their hands had 26 percent fewer missed school days and 22 percent fewer illnesses than those who did not.

The study is in the American Journal of Infection Control.
