A cloudless sky greeted thousands of athletes Sunday morning for the 29th annual Life Time Chicago Triathlon.

Participants swam, ran and biked a total of 51.5 kilometers all along the lakefront. This year's field featured 10,000 athletes from 46 states and 19 foreign countries.

One of those athletes was Chicago's Mayor Rahm Emanuel. Organizers say he completed the competition in 1 hour and 36 minutes which earned him 9th place in his age group.
