Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel has ordered the city's comptroller to audit mileage and travel reimbursements across all departments of city government and sister agencies.

The mayor says it is part of an on-going effort to increase the efficiency of city operations. The review will compare the travel and mileage expenses by city employees against others in the public and private sectors to try and identify areas of potential savings to taxpayers.

The audit report is due back to the mayor in 30 days.
