The head of the Field Museum is retiring. John McCarter, Jr. has been president and CEO of the museum since 1996.

He will retire next fall.

During McCarter's tenure, the museum's revenue has more than doubled.

12 permanent exhibits have been added, including Sue, the world's largest complete tyrannosaurus rex fossil.

The museum will use an executive search firm to find McCarter's successor.
