Insulin could fight Alzheimer's

September 19, 2011

A new study found insulin could help slow the decline in cognitive function in patients with mild and severe dementia.

Researchers made the discovery while tracking 1,000 diabetes patients over age 60 in Japan during a 15- year period.

Doctors say they aren't sure what the link is between the two diseases but they do know sugar has a damaging effect on both the nervous and vascular systems.

The study was published in the journal Neurology.
