It happened around midnight in the 5800-block of South Racine.
Investigators say officers involved in a drug investigation made a traffic stop and one suspect ran from them. As they tried to stop the man, police say he turned and pointed a gun at officers, who then fired two shots hitting the man in the side.
The wounded man is in critical condition.
No officers were injured.
