Police say the woman tried to help the man because she believed he was homeless. He then knocked her to the ground and sexually assaulted her before being scared off by a passing police car.
"This is an 83-year-old woman who was trying out of the kindness of her heart to help this individual and he commits this despicable act. So we are using every resource available to us to track him down as quickly as possible," said Orland Park Commander John Keating.
The attacker is described as 35 to 45 years old, 5-foot-8 with a thin build, curly red hair and a red beard. He was missing some teeth and possibly wearing a black leather jacket and carrying a black backpack.
