It happened near the intersection of 19th Avenue and Madison in Maywood at approximately 1 a.m.
The medical examiner has identified the victim as 14-year-old Dominique Thomas, who was sleeping inside of the apartment when the accident happened.
A source says that there was also another person on a couch inside of the apartment at the time.
According to sources and witnesses, the driver of the vehicle had been shot and slumped over when the car crashed.
Later Tuesday morning, the hole that the car left was boarded up, and marks could be seen in the grass where the vehicle slammed into the apartment complex .
Neighbors say several people were taken to the hospital.
"I heard a shot. I heard a car rev. I heard a car scrape as it came over the hill right here, and next thing I knew, it was over there," said one witness who did not want to be seen on camera.
There was no immediate word on the driver's condition.
