Clarke House celebrates 175 years

History came alive Saturday at the 175th anniversary celebration of a South Side landmark, the Clarke House Museum.

Families were admitted free to see what Chicago life was like in the 1850s. Historians, some wearing clothes of that era, described the life and answered questions.

Clarke House was constructed in 1836 and is considered the city's oldest building. The museum is operated by Chicago's Department of Cultural Affairs and Special Events.
