Fritchey calls for county clerk to take over deeds

Cook County Commissioner John Fritchey wants to eliminate the office of the Cook County Recorder of Deeds.

On Monday, Fritchey called for a countywide voter referendum that would merge the recorder's duties with those of the county clerk. Fritchey says the merging of the two offices would improve efficiency and save the county about $1 million a year.

He plans to introduce his resolution to the county board later this month and have it voted upon in November.
