Joliet woman killed in hit-and-run

October 6, 2011 (JOLIET, Ill.)

Emotions ran high at the funeral for Leticia Magana. One mourner collapsed in anguish outside the funeral home.

"Please, turn yourself in," Magana's friend, Conseuelo Ortiz, said. "You left five kids without a mom."

A small memorial marks where Magana was struck and killed early Sunday. She was walking home along Bluff Street with her husband and nephews. They had just left a party.

Police said a car crossed the opposite side of the road and jumped the curb, hitting Magana before driving away.

"We're looking for any type of help we can get, especially with the community," Joliet police Cmdr. Alan Roachner said. "The only way we will solve it is if somebody calls us that may know something."

Joliet police are looking for a dark-colored SUV with front-end damage.
