Goshen College professor slain in home invasion

October 9, 2011 (GOSHEN, Ind.)

James Miller, who taught biology at Goshen College, was pronounced dead at the scene of his Goshen, Ind., home.

Goshen police say his wife, Linda, was struck with an object and suffered serious injuries in the attack that occured around 1 a.m. Sunday. She was transferred to South Bend Memorial Hospital, but a nursing supervisor said later Sunday the woman was not there.

Police say Linda Miller called police to report the attack by a white male in their home, about 25 miles southeast of South Bend. The attacker had fled by the time officers arrived.

A vigil for Miller at Goshen College Sunday night drew more than 1,000.
