Residents discuss proposed police station closings

October 17, 2011 (CHICAGO)

Superintendent Garry McCarthy spoke to concerned residents at a South Side church in the area of the Prairie police district. It's one of three stations the mayor wants to close because of a $636 million budget gap. The others he wants to shut down are the Wood and Belmont stations.

Concerned residents fear the closures would compromise their safety.

Mayor Emanuel said he selected the districts based on low crime statistics and their proximities to other stations.
