It happened just before 8:30 Sunday night along the Metra Northwest Line in unincorporated Harvard.
Investigators believe 86-year-old Gloria Jacobs of McHenry was lost and unfamiliar with the roadways when she drove her car onto the tracks at the Brink Street crossing.
When her car got stuck, Jacobs then got out and continued walking along the tracks until she was hit by the train.
