Panel recommends boys get HPV vaccine

That virus is linked to cervical cancer in females and may also be tied to some cancers in men. According to the Center for Disease Control, more than 8,500 cases of HPV positive head and neck cancers have been diagnosed this year.

A new study also suggests a link between HPV infection and heart disease in some women.

The HPV vaccine has been controversial since it was recommended for girls five years ago. Only about a third of adolescent girls have been vaccinated against the virus.
