2 Chicago-area men, athlete shot near U of I

November 13, 2011 (URBANA, Ill.)

The shooting happened in Urbana on Lincoln Avenue just across the street from the McKinley Health center and Lincoln Avenue Residence Halls.

The victims included a 22-year-old man from Palos Park, and a 23-year-old man from Park Forest. Their conditions were not known.

The third victim is U of I linebacker Trulon Henry. Illini Coach Ron Zook says Henry was shot in the hand and is recovering. Zook also says Henry will miss the rest of the regular season.

The 27-year-old played at the College of DuPage before joining the Illini for the 2010 season.

Police are still searching for the gunman.

University of Illinois senior football student-athlete Trulon Henry was injured in an off-campus shooting early Sunday morning (Nov. 13) in Urbana. Henry, a two-year starter for the Fighting Illini, was shot in the hand and underwent surgery. He will miss the remainder of the regular season, and his status for a possible bowl appearance is unknown.

Henry, who was not originally at the party, was called by a teammate to go to the location to help encourage the players at the party to leave. Henry was one of three people shot.

Henry, who was a native of Washington, D.C., was a starting outside linebacker this season after starting all 13 games as a safety in 2010. He is ninth on the team with 39 tackles and is tied for the team lead with two interceptions.
