Study: Spike in ER visits linked to energy drinks with alcohol

Visits to emergency rooms are on the rise due to people combining energy drinks with alcohol or other drugs.

According to a new government report, more than 13,000 ER visits were reported in 2009. More than half the patients ranged in age from 18 to 25.

Also, high doses of caffeine can cause abnormal heart rhythms, high blood pressure, dehydration and other serious conditions.
