Atty: Suspect in teen's murder to plead not guilty

November 28, 2011

Court records indicate John Wilson, 38, has a long history of mental illness but attorney John P. Carroll said Monday he has no doubts about his client's mental state.

Wilson is accused of stabbing Kelli O'Laughlin when she walked in on a burglary at her home. He is being held at the Pontiac Correctional Center. His attorney's request for him to be moved closer was denied.

"I'm not asking for anything special for the man, but I think he should be treated like any other accused person who's presumed innocent, that's all," said Carroll.

At the time of the stabbing, Wilson was on parole. He has spent 17 of the last 20 years in prison.
