Sherry Smith, home and holiday expert at Chalet Landscape, Nursery & Garden Center in Wilmette, came to our ABC7 studio to show us how to trim doors with wreaths, swags and other decorative embellishments.
Sherry's Suggestions:
1. Traditional
- Live evergreen wreath
- Other fresh plants
- Provides a spot of color and holiday cheer
2. Whimsical
- Swap traditional Christmas green for a cool lime green
- The door can become a "tree" of sorts, with shatterproof ornaments interlaced in colorful ribbons and bows
3. Contemporary
- Use "wow factor" colors (bold purples, greens, pinks or blues)
- Add hip snowflakes along with battery-lit lights set into a decorative swag
- For more glitz, add festive silver adornments
