An alligator was recovered from the Rock River in South Beloit in Winnebago County.

Workers at the Winnebago County animal control center told authorities a child found the gator near a boat landing.

They have named him Albert and the reptile was lucky to be found alive in the cold weather.

The 1 1/2-foot-long alligator is spending a few more days with animal control before it will be transferred to the Chicago Herpetological Society.
