Weight loss experts have some new year's advice for millions of Americans trying to shed pounds as their resolution: don't get discouraged by setbacks and be persistent.

Weight loss specialists at Loyola's Gottleib Hospital have outlined some updated guidelines.

Among them: eat something for breakfast, preferably protein, because it increases metabolism by 20 percent.

Commit to consistency. Don't eat healthy during the week only to splurge on the weekend.

And exercise for an hour a day, although they stress this can come in the form of physical chores such as shoveling, vacuuming, or even taking the stairs instead of an elevator.
