New Illinois law requires ID to buy caustic substances

A new state law concerning the sale of products, including pool chemicals and drain cleaners, could clog up store checkout lines.

Under the law, Illinois customers must present a driver's license or other government issued ID when buying caustic and noxious substances. They must also sign a log detailing the purchase.

The legislation came after attacks on two Chicago women who were injured when acid was poured on them.
