Friday marked the last day of Chicago Public Schools' holiday Safe Haven program.

The program, which was held in 40 churches across the area , was designed to provide students ages 5 to 17 with a safe place to participate in activates during the district's winter break. ¬

Friday, public schools CEO Jean-Claude Brizard congratulated students and staff as they get ready to return to school on Monday. ¬

"It's hard to measure the success, because we prevent a lot of bad things from happening," said Brizard. "Good things happen because of you being a part of this program ... so thanks to the adults who've worked so hard to make sure this is a success." ¬

Brizard says the holiday Safe Haven program was focused on anti-bullying themes. ¬

The program served about 1,000 students. ¬
