New Gary mayor sworn in

A big crowd at Gary's West Side Leadership Academy applauded as Karen Freeman-Wilson was installed as the city's first female mayor.

She's also the first African-American woman ever to head an Indiana city Freeman-Wilson served as Indiana attorney general and a Gary city judge. She's a Harvard law school graduate.

She's trying to convey optimism that she can help end decades of economic decline in Gary.
