In north suburban Park Ridge, firefighters came to the rescue of some beloved pets trapped when flames spread through an apartment building.

The fire broke out Sunday morning in the condominium complex where most of the residents are senior citizens. About 15 people have been unable to return to their units due to heavy damage.

Firefighters were able to locate and save two cats that their families were unable to find when they were forced to evacuate.
