A Chicago Police officer is hospitalized with non-life threatening wounds after being shot on the city's far South Side.

According to Chief Garry McCarthy, two officers were responding to a call of shots fired in the 100 block of West 103rd Place.

The officer was shot in his bulletproof vest and the bullet lodged in his arm.

"It just really points up just an issue of the safety of our officers and the things that they engage in every single day that are making a difference in this city," McCarthy said.

At least one person is being questioned in connection with the shooting.

Police recovered several weapons from the scene.
