A vitamin nicknamed the "Sunshine Vitamin" may help increase bone strength in teenage girls.

A study in the Archives of Pediatric and Adolescent Medicine followed more than 67,000 girls ages 9 to 15.

A food diary helped keep track of what they ate.

Girls who had the highest intake of Vitamin D from food and supplements had a 50% chance of lower risk stress factors.

Researchers say that finding supports the recommendations from the Institute of Medicine to increase the recommended daily allowance of Vitamin D in adolescents.
