A former Chicago police officer was sentenced to two months in prison in one of the worst misconduct scandals in the department's history.

Keith Herrera admitted taking part in three robberies. He and other officers with the Special Operations Section stole thousands of dollars from suspected drug dealers and other citizens.

Herrera received a lighter sentence because he cooperated in the investigation of the shakedown.

The Special Operations Section was disbanded in 2007 after the scandal surfaced.
