The Chicago City Council passed a resolution Wednesday honoring a Chicago police officer who was shot in the line of duty.

In March, Del Pearson was chasing a suspect when he was shot in the shoulder, just beyond the protection of his bulletproof vest.

He was bleeding heavily and two of his fellow officers realized there wasn't any time to wait for an ambulance so they rushed him to a hospital.

Alderman praised Pearson for his bravery and service as well as other members of his unit.
