May 16, 2012 (WHEATON, Ill.)

Myles Burton was found guilty after a one-day bench trial.

On December 8 at about 11:25 p.m., prosecutors say, Burton approached the dorm at 190 S. Prospect and carved racial sayings into the ledge. Prosecutors say Burton carved "KKK" and two racial epithets into the ledge. He was arrested the next day without incident.

A conviction for a felony hate crime charge could carry a sentenced to up to five years in prison.
