A new study finds the number of Americans suffering from kidney stones has almost doubled since 1994, and researchers add, the obesity epidemic is the most likely reason why.

It is estimated about 1 in 11 Americans now develops kidney stones. That is in contrast to 1994 when it was only one in 20.

Researchers say kidney stones are becoming a very common health condition in the US and are more common than heart disease, stroke and diabetes.
