The soldier also received a special surprise. He was welcomed home to DeKalb by both his family and Warrior's Watch.
Whippo joined the service six years ago. He spent eighteen months serving in South Korea. Later, he worked as a satellite communications systems operator in Belgium.
"It really does totally melt your heart when you see this stuff going on, even when it's for other people, especially like our guys in the desert - so really, it's for them," said Whippo.
Whippo plans to enroll in college in the fall.
