Minn. man, 20, found dead at Kane Co. Jail

May 31, 2012 (ST. CHARLES, Ill.) Officials with the Kane County Sheriff's Department say Keith Renfroe of Cottage Grove, Minn., was in jail on a felony criminal trespassing charge. He was in a cell by himself when a guard found him lying face down and unresponsive.

Authorities say Renfroe died last week after his family asked that he be removed from life support.

The sheriff's office on Wednesday said investigators are still waiting for autopsy results and toxicology reports.

Renfroe was arrested May 18 just before 6:30 a.m. by the Gilberts Police Department. He was put into a cell 12 hours later. The Kane County Sheriff's Office says that Renfroe became unconscious sometime between two cell checks by a guard at 1:55 a.m. and 2:12 a.m. May 19.

Medical staff and corrections officers on duty performed CPR on Renfroe until the arrival of Fox River Fire Department paramedics.

Renfroe was taken to Delnor Hospital's emergency room, then to the intensive care unit. He died May 24.
